Welcome to The Friday Face-Off, a weekly meme at Books by Proxy. Join us every Friday as we pit cover against cover, and publisher against publisher, to find the best artwork in our literary universe. You can find a list of upcoming topics at Lynn's Books.
This week's topic is:
Snarky Sidekick
Who is a better sidekick to Locke Lamora than wonderful Jean Tannen? (I guess you could even Locke is a sidekick to Jean at times, but... I'll leave that up to you to choose, haha). The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch was one of the first books that came to mind for this topic because I feel like it truly embodies a great team/sidekick sort of idea and has endless, (truly, endless) snark. If you haven't started this series yet then I still wholeheartedly recommend it because it's a blast. Fortunately it's also been translated a lot and has a huge array of covers (I didn't even manage to include them all!), so let's have a peek at them!
2006 US Hardcover | 2007 UK Paperback | 2007 Italian
2008 Spanish | 2006 US Ebook | 2007 Polish
2015 US Anniversary Edition | 2013 French | 2007 Finnish
2019 French | 2007 Swedish | 2017 Thai
2009 Russian | 2015 Chinese | 2007 Japanese
My choice(s):
These are all pretty fun, in all honesty. I absolutely love the tenth anniversary edition design, and I appreciate the original US and UK covers. The Chinese and Japanese editions also scream adventure to me, and the artwork on the Swedish edition is also beautiful!
What cover(s) do you like the most?
These are all so cool and different - I do quite like the Italian one!
ReplyDeleteI like that third cover a lot. The Japanese one is awesome, and so is the chinese ( I like that half submerged POV). The Thai one really gives a sense of a mysterious city in the background. These are awesome.
ReplyDeleteThere is so much variety! I love the anniversary edition and also the Swedish cover😁
